About
I’m a PhD researcher and photographer based in Las Vegas, Nevada. After serving as a federal agent for the United States military, I broke from the traditional career path to pursue photography. It was a big risk, but it paid off!
When I began, I didn’t know where photography would take me. But now, years into the career, I’m proud to say that it has carried me to the ends of the Earth and back many times over. Over the years, I’ve grown to specialize in the polar regions - particularly the Arctic - where I am endlessly captivated by the unique light, landscapes, species, and shifting ice.
“The Arctic is a place of constant becoming and unbecoming - a world of transition and endless anticipation.”
As an Arctic specialist, I have spent a significant amount of time exploring the northern region. My travels in Greenland have inspired numerous academic research projects, including my dissertation which models indigenous perspectives on contemporary challenges to subsistence hunting. This academic curiosity is echoed in my photographic pursuits which focus heavily on Arctic landscapes and other projects that visually explore the real-life aspects of my academic subjects.
To further this mission, I’ve partnered with filmmaker Ashlei Payne to produce a documentary about the modern changes of hunting culture in northern Greenland. Learn more about this project and how you can support it here:
My hope is that my work is about more than photography. My images seek to merge science and art to highlight themes of transition and to emotionally connect viewers to places few will ever visit. My goal is to raise awareness that climate-threatened landscapes are more than data points, charts, and statistics – they’re living places that deserve to be protected in their own right.
As an educator, I prioritize enhancing awareness and appreciation of the natural world through speaking engagements and hands-on education. My photography workshops focus on introducing others to these magical and remote places and creating a deeper understanding of the environment while also learning new technical skills. I’m proud to be a Pro with Muench Workshops, who offer incredible and immersive photography experiences worldwide.
